INTRODUCTION
At the Bridgeport Fire Dept. Employees Federal Credit Union, we are committed to keeping our members' non-public information private. As financial professionals, we know that safeguarding your information is as important as safeguarding your money. Our privacy policy serves as a standard for our employees, directors, and financial partners for the collection, use, retention, and security of individual member information.
RECOGNITION OF MEMBERS' RIGHT TO PRIVACY
The credit union believes the confidentiality and protection of your information is one of our most important responsibilities. While information is critical to providing quality service, we recognize that one of our most important assets is the trust of our members. Therefore, the safekeeping of your information is of the utmost importance to us.
WHY WE COLLECT NON-PUBLIC INFORMATION
The credit union collects, retains, and uses information about our members only when we believe it will help us administer our business or to provide services and products to you. We collect and retain in information for specific business purposes and we will tell you why we are collecting it upon your request.
We use information to protect and administer your account; to comply with certain laws and regulations; to help us design or improve our products and services; to provide your with a product or service; and to better understand your financial needs so we can provide you with superior service.
MAINTENANCE OF ACCURATE INFORMATION
Accuracy of information is a major concern at the credit union. We continually strive to maintain complete and accurate information about you and your account. If, for any reason, you believe that our records contain inaccurate or incomplete data, please notify us. Whenever possible, we will investigate and correct any inaccuracies.
WHO HAS ACCESS TO YOUR INFORMATION?
Access to confidential account information is limited to credit union employees and officials who need the information to provide you with a product or service. Our employees and officials are educated on the importance of maintaining confidentiality of member information.
The credit union may share your information with financial partners in order to offer you products or services (EX: insurance benefits). When any information is shared with these partners, they agree to keep all information confidential and are acting on behalf of the credit union. The information is never shared with any other party.
The credit union has joint agreements to provide you with specific products or services (EX: data cards.). Confidentiality agreements exist between the credit union and its partners is these joint efforts. Our partners in these services never share your information with any other party.
RESTRICTIONS ON THE DISCLOSURE OF YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION
The credit union does not reveal specific information about your account or other personally identifiable information to parties other than our affiliated partners unless:
- You request or authorize it.
- The information is provided to help complete a transaction authorized by you.
- The information is provided to a reputable credit bureau or other consumer-reporting agency.
- The disclosure is otherwise lawfully permitted or required by law (EX: subpoena, investigation of fraudulent activities, request by our regulators, etc.).
- The disclosure is necessary to conduct out business (EX: to collect a debt, etc.).
Under no circumstances does the credit union provide your non-public information to any non-credit union related company for the purpose of marketing, telemarketing or direct mail marketing of any type of goods or services.
RIGHTS TO OPT OUT OF INFORMATION SHARING
The credit union does not share any information other than what is allowable by law and necessary to conduct business on your behalf. If at some future time this policy should change, you will have the right to "opt out", and your information will not be shared. If our privacy changes, you will be notifies in writing of the new policy and your right to opt out.
WE COLLECT NON-PUBLIC INFORMATION ABOUT YOU FROM THE FOLLOWING SERVICES
- Information we receive from you on an application or other forms.
- Information about your transactions with us.
- Information we receive from a consumer-reporting agency.
MEMBER PRIVACY IN BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS WITH THIRD PARTIES
When the credit union conducts business with third party vendors and suppliers, it requires them to maintain similar standards of conduct regarding the privacy of personally identifiable member information provided to them.
